Nestled amidst sprawling open playing fields and parkland on the northern edge of the city Melbourne Zoo has over 300 species on display everyday of the year. Friends of the Zoo provide free tours and answer visitors' questions between 10.00am and 3.00pm daily.

The carousel imported from England in the 1880’s travelled the Australian show circuit for approx. 80 years until 1963 when it arrived at the Melbourne Zoo. To retain its historical value heritage Victoria oversaw the restoration of the carousel undertaken in 2005.
