Philip Island is 90km east of Melbourne situated offshore in Westernport Bay, the island is connected to the mainland town of Hastings by a bridge.
Australia’s most popular natural wildlife attraction is the daily Penguin Parade. Each night at sunset the Fairy Penguins return to their nests in the sand dunes.
The facilities at Philip Island allow visitors to view the parade from boardwalks constructed above the beach so they can follow the little penguins as they make their way to the nest.
The Visitor Centre provides a wealth of information on the penguin populations breeding habits and the natural life cycle. As well as having visual displays and a mini theatre you can also observe some of the penguin burrows in the dunes from the basement level of the Visitors Centre.
This is a tour you cannot miss during your stay at King Street Backpackers even if you don’t have the time to enjoy the other attractions at Philip Island. |
