Sovereign Hill

Ballarat was the site of the Eureka Stockade during Australia’s gold rush era in the 1850’s.

Sovereign Hill is an open-air historical park situated in an area where prospectors rushed to dig for gold. There is still real gold to be found in the creek and the natural setting helps to bring an important part of Australia’s history back to life.

The “Goldrush Special” is a Free Bus Service to Sovereign Hill’s front door to/from the Ballarat Railway Station. Guests at King Street Backpackers can walk 200m to Southern Cross Station to catch the Ballarat train.

The trip takes about 1.25 hours, for V/Line tickets call 136 196.
